Community Connections

Strong social connections mean a better quality of life.

We understand your challenges to become socially connected when you’re from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background.

That’s why we’re a Community Connections Partner, working with CALD communities to connect you with people who understand you and help you get the support you need to achieve your goals.

What is the Community Connections program?

The Community Connections program helps people to be more independent at home and to build stronger social and community connections across South Australia.

Strong social connections can improve your quality of life and provide better health outcomes.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare estimates that around 1 in 7 people experience social isolation, and that this has a negative effect on their mental and physical health, and their ability to participate in the community.

You don’t have to feel lonely to be socially isolated. Infrequent social contact and a lack of engagement in the community can be enough to negatively impact your quality of life.

Who is Community Connections for?

Community Connections is for people living in South Australia who are:

Aged 18 to 64.

Need short-term support to improve their wellbeing by strengthening their connections with communities, social networks, and services.

Ineligible for Federal Government programs, such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and My Aged Care.

Some South Australians struggle to form social connections more than others.

This program aims to provide more help to:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

People who are culturally and linguistically diverse and for whom English is not their first language

People who identify as LGBTQIA+

Unpaid carers

People who are financially disadvantaged

People living in disadvantaged locations and communities, including rural, regional, and low socio-economic areas

How does Community Connections work?

We are a Community Connections Partner who provide short-term support for up to 12 weeks and can connect you with longer-term support, if needed.
